The Priority and Power of the Gospel

This was my first sermon at Glory of Christ Fellowship on April 28th, 2013.  Being the first opportunity I had to preach as a lay pastor/elder at Glory of Christ, it was hard to imagine preaching on anything other than the most important topic there is to me – the gospel.  I figured that, in the case that it would be my only sermon, this is what I would want it to be on.  It also just so “happened” that after being asked to preach that I was just starting chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians in my daily reading, so it seemed that God laid the text in my lap, if you will:) It really was an incredible privilege to preach and more specifically to preach on the heart of the gospel – namely, the cross of Christ. I have to say that I am thankful for the years that I spent as a member at Sovereign Grace Church (with one of my favorite preachers – Rick Gamache) where I was given such a wonderful foundation of cross-centered preaching which, no doubt, has greatly impacted my passion for the cross.  The sermon text was 1 Corinthians 15:1-4;

“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures”
